Top 10 fictional characters I would do and why, in no particular order:
1) Faramir, from "Lord of the Rings" (especially after his heroic, doomed charge as featured in Return of the King). Because he's hot, he can fight, his daddy doesnt love him, and he's got that amazing poetic prince thing going on.
2) Edvard, Prince of Denmark, from "The Prince and Me." Because he likes fast cars, knows how to party, and looks so good in a suit he should be illegal.
3) Julian Sark, from "Alias." Because he's blond and British, drinks expensive aged wine, favors Armani, looks smooth even as he dodges bullets and even though he's technically a bad guy, he is just so much sexier than Vaughn (who is a complete pussy).
4) Harry Osborne, from the Spiderman movies. Um hello....James Franco is one of the most gorgeous people alive, and Harry, besides being fabulously rich and good looking has to deal w/ the fact that his best friend murdered his father. He's another one whose daddy didn't love him. Awww.
5) Sebastian Valmont, from Cruel Intentions. Because you know for a fact he's good in bed, he drives the most amazing car ever, and at the end of the movie he languishes around NYC in that really hot long black coat. (We never meet his daddy, but I'm sure he wasn't feeling the love).
6) Thomas Crown, from The Thomas Crown Affair (The Pierce Brosnan version) Because he tipped a $100,000 yacht over just so he could see the splash, he routinely steals art from the Metropolitan museum, and he dances a killer tango.
7) Hamlet, from Hamlet (The Ethan Hawke version) Because his uncle is an asshole, and his mom is a whore, and his daddy did love him, but is unfortunately dead. And Ethan Hawke glooms around the city dressed in all black and looking so good that in the end you forget he's really a psycho murderer.
8) James Bond, from every James Bond movie ever made. Because his name's "Bond, James Bond," he drinks his vodka martinis "shaken, not stirred," he always wins with cars, cards and women, and even though he sleeps w/ every female that moves, he has that tantalizing aloof, emotionally inaccessible quality that makes you want to get closer.
9) Draco Malfoy, from the Draco Trilogy Because he's hot hot hot, he has to make way too many hard choices, he lives in a Manor, he's involved in a perpetual life-or-death struggle as well as embroiled in the magical equivalent of civil war and terrorism, and his daddy really really didn't love him (are we seeing a trend here?)
10) Francis Crawford, from the Lymond Chronicles (which zhenggy really needs to read if she hasn't already) Because he's also ridiculously hot (blonde hair, blue eyes), unbelievably graceful, and incredibly intelligent. He can sing, he can dance, he can fight, he speaks about 7 languages, he can juggle and tell riddles and charm everyone he meets, he's one of those flawed heroes who uses his wit and cutting comments to hide what's really going on inside. He's pretty much James Bond set in Scotland in the 16th century, and...wait for it...his daddy didn't love him either!
So, in case y'all havent picked up on my taste in men by now: I like them to come from tortured family backgrounds, be completely emotionally fucked-up, but very rich, talented, and good looking. If you know anyone who fits the bill, please give him my number.

A little more than a month of summer left, and I'm well on my way to succeeding in life.
I've spent a lot of time figuring out my "how to succeed" strategy, and this is what I finally came up with: have all the attributes of the perfect trophy wife, without actually being a trophy wife.
So far, I have acquired the following trophy wife-worthy skills: 1) Sailing 2) Horseback riding 3) Ballroom dancing 4) Good posture (courtesy of #s 2 and 3) 5) Decent cooking and baking skills 6) Exquisite fashion sense (ha) 7) Tennis 8) Piano playing 9) I've practically swallowed my giant etiquette book, so I'm up to date on using cutlery and being charming while answering the phone. 10) Reading (i'm trying to branch out from trashy romance novels, honestly) 11) French, the language of love and nutella
I figure the skills I still need to acquire include: 1) Skiing 2) Better game of golf 3) Knowledge of opera that goes beyond Gilbert and Sullivan 4) Entering and exiting cars without inevitaby tripping all over myself
Surely once I can do all these things, I will be well on my way to being a trophy wife? Please comment on this entry with other skills you think I need in order to achieve my goal. Also, what are the merits of flower arranging in the grand scheme of things? And do trophy wives need to know how to fence? or to knit? What about self-defense skills, or are those reserved for secret agent types?
Finally, since I don't actually want to be a trophy wife (I just want to be able to attract the men who want them), I need to work on finding a career that promises to be high powered and well paying. Thoughts?

While every single person I know spent last night 1) dressing in sexy clothes 2) pre-gaming in pennypacker 3) hitting up a few upperclass parties 4) going to the spee and the AD 5) stumbling home at 5 this morning, completely trashed, *I* was stuck in my room memorizing the conjugations to 118 Russian verbs.
How can my life suck this much??

I have kissed someone...
on the cheek. on the lips. on their hands or fingers. in my room. in their room. of the same sex. - yes, if on the cheek counts. of the opposite sex. younger than me. - again, yes for on the cheek older than me. with jet black hair. with curly hair. with blonde hair & blue eyes. Ok, this one could use a little explaining. I've kissed someone with blonde hair and brown eyes, and someone with very light brown hair and blue eyes, so I figure - when you put them together, it counts. with flaming red hair. The hair was closer to orange, but whatever. with straight hair. smaller/shorter than me. bigger/taller than me. with a lip ring. who was drunk. Ha - they should add "who wasn't drunk" to this list. who was high. who I had just met. who was homosexual. who I didn't really want to kiss. on a holiday. who was going out with someone else. Oh boy have I done this. Repeatedly. And a word of warning to anyone who might be reading this entry: DON'T DO IT! Do not kiss (or let yourself be kissed by) somebody who is already in a relationship! Especially not if this person is your best friend! That way leads to ruin and doom. who was going out with someone close to me. who was my good friend's brother or sister. who had been/is in jail. in a graveyard. at a show/concert. at the beach. in a pool, jacuzzi, or some type of water. who was legally too young/old for me to have sex with. If I kissed a 22 year old while I'm only 17, does that count? with dyed hair. with a shaved head. who was/is my good friend. Yes to this one. It relates very closely to "who was going out with someone else." What a life. who was/is in a band. who has tattoos. who is of a completely different race than me. in the rain. in another continent besides where I was born. with an accent. Three accents in fact. One guy w/ a Southern, one guy w/ an Irish, and one w/ a Canadian/French. with an std. on a boat. in a car/taxi/bus. on a plane. at the circus/carnival. with a missing body part. in the movies. eskimo style (I'm sorry, but how do the eskimos kiss?)

Thanks to everyone for all the super sweet comments on my last post. I love you guys!!!
But, as I predicted, it was just one of those blue wee hour posts, and I am now completely back to my "I love Harvard and life" self.
Except for one frightening change, which I'm a little nervous to announce on this livejournal...I think I may be turning into a Republican. AHHHHH!!! It scares me too, but what with taking Ec 10 w/ Marty Feldstein (die hard conservative) and being best friends w/ someone from a red state (who actually manages to be nice funny and smart, as well as republican), I can feel myself going over to the dark side. So much of the Republican platform makes sense to me, especially when I think about it in economic terms.
In another news, I have SO much work to do this week, which is irritating, because all my Harvard girls were planning to start drinking tomorrow night in preparation for the Harvard/Yale game this Saturday. If I have to stay in and do Russian homework instead of going out tomorrow, I'm going to cry.

Realized that I have to stop getting back to my room at 5 am every morning, or I will die of sleep deprivation.
I've been partying (surprise surprise) for what feels like the last three days straight. It started out Thursday night at the finals club, continued into Friday when jolevsky came to visit, and reached a culmination yesterday night when I think I went to about 6 parties total, getting progressively more drunk. I've also become an expert at fending off drunk guys when they offer to walk you home. Never accept the offer, you will only end up trying to escape them at your doorway while they attempt to persuade you that "it's such a warm night, why don't you take your shirt off?"
The few moments when I wasn't drunk, I got my nails done with the girls. Today we're going in to Boston to eat at Marche. I can't wait to taste a steak again!!

I love love love love Harvard!!!
I love it so much, it's unbelievable.
I love my classes, I love my friends, all the people around me, the campus, the atmosphere, even the sad party scene.
Last night I neglected to do my Russian homework in favor of going out (on a Thursday night gasp!) to a finals club. It was amazing. We managed to get ourselves onto the permanent invite list, so now we get to go to all the formals and stuff. Also, I've realized that each time I drink I do something crazy.
The first time at college I hooked up with M---. The second time I ended up spending the night w/ a different guy. And the third time (yesterday), I danced on a table with a bunch of people. Good times all.
In case my lj is starting to sound like "ramblings of an alcoholic" I assure you that I do not drink excessively. In fact, some of my best times w/ friends have involved sitting around watching Alias or eating giant cannolis, or finishing off a dozen Krispy Kremes and a pint of Ben and Jerry's between 2 people.

So, in the vein of Jae Bae, I'll post my "what I did when I arrived at Harvard" email.
Got here yesterday with my parents. We moved in, but there has since been huge amounts of room drama (the benefits of a common room w/ two doubles, two singles, vs. the privacy of four singles, one double, no common room). Yeah, I was pretty much the lynchpin, since I stole what would have been the common room for my single. Whatever. Just this one time, I absolutely did not back down. I may have been completely bitchy and out of line, and there's a good chance 3 of my roommates will murder me in my sleep, but I have my single! muahahahaha.
After the oh so boring proctor meeting, we went to the ice cream bash, which was fun in a way. Then, we came back to my room with some random guys we'd picked up at the bash and we all watched Boondock Saints till about 3 in the morning before people left (the room drama discussion commenced at about this time and ended at 4).
Sigh. So, I really like what I've seen of Harvard so far. I've met some people who I definitely think I would click with. But I'm homesick, and my parents haven't even left yet. How pathetic.

Since my other Harvard buddy posted, I thought I too would update. And it's another reason to not get to work on time. *innocent shrug*
So yes. It is 9:30. I am still in pajamas, putting off the tasks of getting dressed, getting in my car, and getting my butt to the Record. They don't care anyway, and once I do arrive, I'm going to stay for about 1.5 hours to make phone calls, then drive away to Englewood where I am *required* to go browsing through clothing stores for my next article. I love my life.
Beyond my general excitement for getting to Harvard, with my wonderful sounding roommates, I have been thinking about potential majors and careers.
As of now, History and Literature (like Chemistry and Physics this is ONE concentration) is still my field of choice. I think I've almost decided that there will be no pre-med requirements for me. I've accepted that the real reason I want to be a doctor is so that I could make a shitload of money, and nice as that would be, even I know it's not the right foundation for a lifelong career.
Instead, I'm hoping to get a joint Business/Law degree from the big H's grad school, then set off into the wide world. I'd love to be an executive for a book publishing company. If I could ever be the CEO of randomhouse/bertelsman, I think i would die and go to heaven. Failing that, corporate law sounds like something I could deal with. Or I could be the marketing director for Barneys (think of the discount!!)
Meantime though, I made a giant list of stuff I have to buy for Harvard (which I'm not going to post because I suspect people would laugh at me), and the month before I leave is devoted to getting that stuff.

After months of dreading leaving for college, I am suddenly SO excited!!
I found out my housing arrangements, and eve (very very kindly) emailed a girl who used to live in my room and got a v. detailed floor plan from her. I have so much space, so many rooms, and it's a six person suite with it's own private little hallway. I can't wait to get there and settle in and meet all my roommates (I've been talking to them via facebook and they seem really nice) in person.
Wow. Now all I have to do is buy every single thing I need to look appropriately Harvard-ish. And I have to find an interesting looking outfit to wear when I meet the guy who is my key to entering a fake finals club.

the idea - If you're so inclined, bold the things you've done and add five of your own on the end, three of which you've done. It's an interesting checklist, from a sociological standpoint. These are things that people consider "unique," or "difficult," or "significant." They tend to get more interesting towards the bottom, because people have run out of typical things to say, and have to dig a little deeper.

This whole "holding down three jobs" idea is a prime example of just how STUPID I am. What possessed me to tell the Record that "yes, I can work full time," and then tell DooWon that "of course I'd love to tutor your sister" and then chicken out of quitting on underwear salesman?
Now I'm stuck having to write publicity emails for monogrammed thong! man, then wake up early tomorrow to a) go running and b) figure out how to improve mini Kim's reading comprehension in 2 hours.
In between all this, I need to get a haircut. I'm becoming more and more tempted to throw caution to the winds and say "chop it all off," but I know I will regret that decision for life. So if any of y'all see me in the next few days, remind me that I have been trying (unsuccessfully) to grow my hair for four years. Now that it's the longest it's ever been since 6th grade, I will not give it all up on an impulse!
Did some college shopping with my mom. I've realized that the two of us are both completely unstable when we're together. We got to the mall planning to buy some books and CDs. Then my mom started talking about how much she's going to miss me in September, I started thinking about how homesick I'm going to be, and pretty soon we were buying muffins and breaking out the tissues in the middle of GSP. I think my mom is trying to make up for my leaving by buying me everything I want and masses of things I couldn't possibly need. She tried to take me flatware shopping (flatware, I ask you??), but was fortunately sidetracked by the new fall window display in J.Crew. In we went. And half an hour later, wallets lighter, shopping bags heavier, out we came. It's the first time in my life that I have not enjoyed shopping even a little tiny bit. What's the point of having all these clothes if I'm just going to wear them and be miserable at college?
*firmly pushes away self-pitying thoughts*
I know I'll love college once I get there and settle in. But at the same time, I'm dreading how much I'm going to miss my home, family and friends.
The only good thing about setting off in September is that I'll have my own credit card. Or rather, my name will be on a credit card that leads directly to my parents' bank account. There's a silver lining in every cloud :)
